USE THE RECESSION TO REVITALISE YOUR COMPANY

A few weeks ago, Lynda wrote a comment piece for the Financial Times on the impact of recessions on organisations. She wrote a follow-up piece earlier this month, urging companies to use the economic downturn as a chance to redefine their operating procedures.

Forget business workshops and case studies: recessions provide real-time opportunities for executive learning as old myths are brought into question and management innovations emerge.

Historically a downturn has been a time when business models, organisational structures, labour markets and employee contracts come under immense strain. Accepted wisdoms are challenged and this break in thinking can result in the adoption of new practices and the adoption of new habits and skills. These pressures and fissures – while difficult at the time – can yield fresh ideas, engaging experiments and interesting adaptations in the long run.

EXPLORING HOT SPOTS IN ASIA
PRELIMINARY FEEDBACK DATA FROM SINGAPORE RESEARCH PROJECT

In the last issue of the Hot Spots newsletter, we gave you news of an exciting project we run in partnership with the Singaporean Ministry of Manpower and local companies to increase innovative capability in teams across industry sectors.

We now have preliminary feedback data on the development progress of participating teams as an outcome of the Learning Journey. This data shows that over a 60 day period, 70 per cent of the teams were able to increase their performance and innovative capability significantly. In 30 per cent of the teams, members and stakeholders reported a strong increase in performance and innovative capability, compared to when they began the Journey.

This data bears out the extremely positive results we have had in other parts of the world, and this is the most significant research project undertaken in Asia on the performance of teams.

If you have a business that has a Singapore office, and you are interested in learning more about how you can join the Learning Community and participate in this MOM-sponsored project, there are still a couple of slots available. Please contact Andreas at andreas@hotspotsmovement.com for more details.
